At the end of the day, your main concern is delivering on customer demands as efficiently and as cost-effectively as possible. The systems that run your business are essential to making this possible. Your investment is not trivial, and those systems need to be reliable so there are little, if any, disruptions to production. At the same time, you want to know that your systems can scale and continually deliver a return as your business evolves.

We know this, which is why we think you’ll find it important that Gartner, Inc. has recently released its Magic Quadrant for Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES). If you’re not familiar, Gartner is a leading research and advisory firm that offers an unbiased analysis of MES vendors, their solutions, and industry trends. Gartner’s Magic Quadrants are a series of market evaluation reports intended to provide visual snapshots, in-depth analyses and actionable advice that provide insight into a market’s direction, maturity, and participants.

Plex was just named a Challenger in the Gartner, Inc. Magic Quadrant for Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES). At Plex, we’re proud of our position in this report because it shows that we are continuing to make significant progress in providing what you as a manufacturer need in an MES to be successful. Historically, the MES category has been dominated by legacy vendors offering highly complex, expensive, and time-intensive custom solutions. Plex built in what other vendors bolted on for more visibility on the shop floor.

Plex is also investing in its MES offering to prepare for the future. In the report, Gartner asserts that “By 2024, 50% of MES solutions will include industrial IoT (IIoT) platforms synchronized with manufacturing operations management (MOM) applications providing near-real-time transaction management, control, data collection, and analytics.â€

In 2018, Plex acquired DATTUS, Inc., which specializes in IIoT solutions that will allow manufacturers to more effectively and efficiently connect equipment to extend the Plex Manufacturing Cloud to new streams of machine data and the underlying intelligence.

We’re out to disrupt the way things have been done with MES because there is a better way.

So, what does this mean to you? You no longer need to be burdened by complicated upgrades that drain your resources or bring production to a grinding halt. The days of manual, paper-based processes are over. Now you can operate a data-driven business and monitor operations by relying on a single source of truth, from the shop floor to the top floor across all your facilities.
